There are five separate compartments above the king's chamber in the
Great pyramid
These are said to have been constructed in order to
relieve the weight on the king's chamber
Nobody knows the purpose of
the compartments
The lowest one was discovered by N. Davison, an
English traveler,in 1765
He found an access passage leading from a
hole at the top of the east wall of the Grand Gallery to the
compartment, this compartment is now called Davidson's room
About
70 years after Davison, the four upper compartments
were discovered by
Colonel Howard Vyse in 1837-8
when he forced a way in by hollowing out
a shaft from below
Not only was he able to penetrate into
compartments, but he also discovered inscriptions on the walls
The
most important of all, found on the top compartment,
being the
hieroglyphics Khufu written inside a car touche which is an oval case,
usually enclosing a royal name, this is the only evidence showing the ownership of the Great pyramid
There
are various thoughts and numerous opinions on this inscription
Some
people assert it was written by Howard Vyse himself
The first person
who pointed this out was an eccentric writer named Zechariah Sitchin
who believed that space men had been responsible for the birth of
ancient cultures
According to Sitchin, Howard Vyse's behavior
before his discovery was very suspicious
He could have written the
inscription in the Great pyramid because of his great desire for fame
honor and money that the discovery would bring him.
Graham Hancock and Colin Wilson, both English writers
mention this in their respective books ( Keeper of Genesis , From Atlantis to the Sphinx )
However
Zahi Hawass, the Egyptian authority of the Supreme Council of
Antiquities (SCA)
clearly disproved this theory by showing it would
have been impossible for Howard Vyse to have written it after the
construction of the pyramid, since the bottom part of the car-touche is
hidden behind blocks of stone. It is obviously clear that the
inscription is not a post-construction addition. (Fig.1)
ANOTHER WAY TO READ THE INSCRIPTION
Undoubtedly
the reading of the hieroglyphics is open to question
it has been rendered as Khufu and therefore the pyramid has been
attributed to this pharaoh
The name "Khufu" is usually written with four hieroglyphics as follows
[ kh-w-f-w ] ( reading from right to left Fig.2 )
